Processing Options Explained

High-Pass Filter

Cuts all frequencies below the specified Hz cutoff. Removes low-frequency rumble and hum that reduces loudness headroom without contributing musical value. A cutoff of 80–120 Hz is recommended for most tracks.

Mid-Low Cut

Applies a subtle reduction in the 200–400 Hz range — often called the "mud" frequencies. This improves clarity and makes the mix feel more open and well-defined.

Glue Compression

A light bus compressor that unifies the stereo mix, making individual elements feel cohesive. It adds a sense of unity and polish without noticeably squashing dynamics.

Master for Release

Normalizes integrated loudness to –9 LUFS with a True Peak ceiling of –1.0 dB. This matches competitive streaming levels and prevents clipping during codec conversion on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.

What is Audio Mastering?

Audio mastering is the final step in music production before distribution. It is the process of optimizing a finished mix so it sounds consistent and professional across all listening environments — from studio monitors and headphones to car stereos and phone speakers.

Mastering also ensures that all tracks within an album or EP share a consistent volume and tonal balance. Streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music apply loudness normalization, so proper mastering ensures your music is heard at its intended loudness and quality.

Traditionally, mastering required expensive studio time with specialist engineers. Fire Lit AI's browser-based mastering tool makes professional-grade processing accessible to everyone — no installation, no file uploads, completely free.
